Addition to a Colonial Revival home This tasteful addition creates a new large Family Room over a two car Garage in addition to opening up and totally remodeling the existing Kitchen. The existing Kitchen was small, dark, and located in a closed-in room in the corner of the house. The new kitchen is dramatically enlarged and opened to the new Family Rm. and to the back yard to create a wonderful family meeting place and an attractive, workable area. Of primary concern on this home was that the addition feel as though it had been attached to the home for it’s entire life time and to fit in with the surrounding historic neighborhood both in context and proportions. This is achieved beautifully here by keeping the garage size manageable yet spacious and by reusing the bricks that were removed from the side of the home to the new front of the garage/Family room. Care was also taken to not get carried away with huge windows to the streetside as well. This is a concern both from the standpoint of historical character as well as trying to retain a sense of privacy from the street without turning your back on the street totally.
